First recorded in Malta in the early fifteenth century, however, in the form of Grecus, this surname dates back to 1277.
The origins of this surname most certainly relates to "of Greece". From the Italian greco, it could refer to "a native of or immigrant from Greece", or "a member of the Greek Orthodox Church".
